The Best Kitchen Tables

The busiest places in a modern home are the dining room and kitchen. People come and go at all hours, eat there and work on all types of projects. Since this space is used for everything, it is important to have a high quality kitchen table. It’s actually not that easy to find the right piece of furniture especially if you buy a new table to complement an existing kitchen setup. The trick is to bridge the gap between making sure that you cover all of your requirements from a practicality perspective as well as bearing in mind the aspects regarding the design and layout.

In most homes, the kitchen table is the most used piece of furniture making it very important. Whether a kitchen table is round or square, for many of us it is the center of our homes, and therefore our lives. This is not only the place where we sit down to eat, but also where we play games, read the newspaper, and have long conversations over a bottle of wine or a cup of coffee.

If you are looking for furniture for your kitchen,  a kitchen table and chairs is just what you should purchase. These furniture sets come in many attractive designs and you may easily find one that fits your budget. However, there are some things you should consider prior to getting a set of furniture. A few of them are explained below:

  • Measurement of your space. This is obvious, but in reality, it is the most significant consideration of all. If you shop before knowing how big or small the table should be, it can cause delay or even worse, purchasing problems. Want a small table that fits in your kitchen corner? Look for a table that does not take up much space in your small area. However, if you are expecting regular guests, you may be looking for a large kitchen table that can accommodate more people at a time. Does a table that large fit your kitchen? Be smart and measure it twice  before you make a decision.
  • Correct height. Consider people who will sit at the table. If your guests are adults, a standard height for your kitchen table would work fine. However, if you frequently welcome guests that are small children, avoid buying large tables that require high chairs. Children will have difficulty climbing to get into the chair. Further, higher chairs will increase the chances of accidents.
  • Round or Square. Rectangular and square tables are customary. It is easy to estimate the number of chairs around so you can customize your table. Certainly, if you purchase a round table, you will eliminate the corners, thus it has more space for your guests. Decide which is best, the preference is yours.
  • The number of chairs. Is your family on small? Do you expect a great number of regular guests? The number of people waiting for dinner at the kitchen table affects the kind of table you need to have. Many are contented to buy only the precise number of chairs required. Others feel restless, until they have some extra chairs for their drop-in visitors. Remember to check the number of chairs that the table can hold before you buy.

Kitchen Tables For Small Spaces

Finding adequately small kitchen tables for small spaces is not an easy task. First of all, you should see if you can rearrange the layout of your kitchen in order to gain more room for your table and chairs. Admittedly, the kitchen is probably the most difficult room to re-configure since some of the appliances are pretty much immobilized – in other words, the sink has to stay by the water pipes and the oven’s location is bound to the gas pipe.
Designers came to understand that dilemma and some of them developed rather creative ideas. Just to mention two examples: drop leaf kitchen tables and countertop kitchen tables. The latter option resembles the look of a small bar setting. Both the kitchen table as well as the matching chairs usually have long legs. On a personal note, I actually don’t like these designs that much because they are not really practical. But I must admit that some of those kitchen table sets look pretty neat and can certainly complement the overall appearance of the room. But ultimately I’m more of a fan of drop leaf kitchen tables. If you don’t need the additional table space it’s out of your way, but always right at your disposal in case you need to make more table surface available.

Tabletop Tips–All About Kitchen Tables

Kitchen tables are some of the most sought after household articles of furniture in America, and for good reason.  Here the family gathers to eat together and chat, here the briefcase is deposited after work, here the homework is agonized over after supper and the list goes on and on.  Indeed, a kitchen table is a very necessary component of any kitchen.

They can be classified in many ways.  One of the best ways to classify them is by how much space they take up, because after all they will be occupying a significant amount of kitchen space.  Some tables are built to take up plenty of space, in essence becoming an extension of the kitchen counter.  These tables are generally made solid and heavy, often using wood.  While they often come in one piece, they can also be custom ordered to be a pedestal base and a glass top, or some such arrangement.  Other tables for the kitchen area are made to take up as little space as possible, such as in a corner table arrangement, or a drop-down-from-the-wall table that is mounted on hinges to the wall.  Either of these options can be very convenient and easy to work around in a small kitchen or condominium.  The size of your kitchen and the use for your table are vital things to remember when table shopping.

Kitchen Table – antique elements combined with modern style

Kitchen tables can also be classified by style.  The best kitchen tables are those that blend in with the decor in your kitchen, while at the same time making a statement.  Tables that are more modern are now leaning toward the sleek glass-and-metal appearance, while traditional tables still come stocky and solidly wood.  Yet another style that is rapidly gaining popularity among American shoppers is the retro table.  These quirky little tables definitely have a personality of their own, they often are designed to have metal borders on the edges of the table, with unique staining and laminating materials used to reflect a bygone era.  Finishes are also varied in color, ranging anywhere from traditional wood to purple or red to metallic, and anywhere in between.

If you are searching for cheap kitchen tables, take the following notes to heart.  First, decide on your personal budget before shopping. Secondly, avoid tables made of more expensive materials, i.e., acrylic or marble.  Both of these materials are much more expensive than their traditional counterparts such as wood and plastic.  However, even with tables with a smaller price tag, quality and beauty can still become part of the bargain; inexpensive tables do not have to fall apart after the first six months.

The vast array of tables for the kitchen can often throw shoppers into bewilderment.  If you can take the time to decide what you want, what the room needs, and your own budget, the shopping process will become a breeze.  No matter if you want round kitchen tables or quirky square tables to choose from, there are plenty of styles and designs that you can choose from for your own home.
